IPOH: The upcoming Perak state assembly sitting will be held in a bubble to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
State Speaker Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid said the concept had been consented by the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, ahead of the sitting on Aug 25.
Mohammad Zahir said all state assemblymen, including himself and other staff, would be staying at Impiana Hotel, with transportation to be provided to the venue.
“All those involved must use the services provided in order to minimise movement.
“Travelling with one’s own transportation or e-hailing services are prohibited, especially if it involves personnel from outside the bubble,” he said in a statement.
“All those involved will be tested daily before being transported to the state assembly building.
“Only those testing negative and who have had their information updated in the MySejahtera app are allowed to board the transportation provided,” he added.
Mohammad Zahir said discussion rooms and facilities for online meetings would be set up at the hotel for the assemblymen.
“Assistants will also be prepared to manage their needs in case they need to send out documents or for other purposes,” he said.
Mohammad Zahir said the main hall during the proceedings would only accommodate the Speaker and 39 assemblymen.
“The remaining 20 assemblymen will be placed in four additional rooms. The composition will be according to the capacity of the rooms to minimise the risks of infection. It is also a precautionary step for targeted quarantine in case someone is infected.
“An assistant will be placed in each room to ensure the meeting proceeds smoothly,” he said.
Mohammad Zahir also said the segregation of the state assemblymen would not disrupt the sitting as it complied with Standing Order 12 (2), whereby the required quorum was a quarter of the total assemblymen.
“The bubble concept will be explained further to all assemblymen so that ample preparations can be done.
