SEREMBAN: Two men have been remanded for six days for allegedly offering RM75,000 in bribes to Tenaga Nasional Berhad employees to turn a blind eye to power theft for bitcoin-mining purposes.
The order to remand the two, aged 49 and 50, was signed by special remand court assistant registrar Mas Azimimin Ahmad here on Tuesday (March 1) following an application by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecuting officer Riduan Kadri.
It is learnt that the suspects had offered the bribes between August last year and January.
They had apparently been operating from several premises in Negri Sembilan.
The suspects, who were detained at the MACC office here at around 3.30pm on Monday (Feb 28), would be probed under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
Offenders can be fined five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher, and jailed up to 20 years if found guilty.
