Throughout the General Election campaign, the Tories have pointed to how the former director of public prosecutions has frequently changed his positions and gone back on promises made during his Labour leadership campaign.

In the BBC General Election debate held at Nottingham Trent University on Tuesday, the Prime Minister used the line “he’s not being straight with you” several times.
For example, Mr Sunak deployed the line in a fiery debate about Brexit, in which Sir Keir hinted at reopening the UK’s deal with the EU.

In a question about whether either of the prime ministerial candidates could be trusted, Mr Sunak once again used the words to say that Sir Keir was not being straight about Labour’s policies.

And the trust issue also came up in a tense debate about immigration, when the PM told Sir Keir: “You’re taking people for fools!”
His repeated use of the phrase was noticed by several people X, formerly known as Twitter, with one saying: “Is ‘he’s not being straight with you’ @RishiSunak’s new catchphrase?”
