GEORGE TOWN: A woman has been found dead with four slash wounds on her body at the Sri Nipah Apartment in Sungai Nibong here.

The Indonesian woman, who had a 13cm wound on her neck, was found covered in blood late Sunday (Dec 5) night by two Bangladeshi men who were tenants in the unit.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the unit was rented by three Bangladeshi men.

"The prime suspect, a 37-year-old male tenant, has fled and a statewide hunt for him has been launched," he said on Monday (Dec 6).

ACP Soffian said the 45-year-old victim also had slash wounds on her stomach, chest and behind an ear.

"There were also marks on the victim's wrists and legs, possibly from being tied up before she was murdered, something we are not ruling out.

"The two Bangladeshi men said they heard an argument in a room but went to their construction site for work at 7.30am yesterday (Sunday Dec 5) and found the victim when they returned home," he said, adding that both men have been detained to help with the investigation.

The victim's remains have been sent to the Penang Hospital for post-mortem.
