SENDAI -- A woman turned herself in to police here on Dec. 11 after allegedly slashing a stranger at a local supermarket that morning.
A man in his 60s was reading a book in the first-floor book section at a Seiyu supermarket in Sendai's Taihaku Ward at about 5:25 a.m. when a woman who appeared to be a janitor slashed him in the left arm with a blade, saying, "You're in my way," among other things.
The man's wounds are expected to take two weeks to heal. The injuries were not life-threatening.
About 4 1/2 hours later, a woman turned herself in to the Miyagi Prefectural Police's Sendai Minami Police Station. She was carrying a bladed weapon thought to be the same one used in the supermarket slashing. Investigators plan to arrest her on suspicion of attempted murder once suspicions against her are established.
