A fire impacting five residences broke out early Wednesday just blocks from Midway Airport and may have been started by fireworks, fire officials said.

The Chicago Fire Department responded to the fire in the 5700 block of West 64th Place about 12:20 a.m.
Larry Merritt, a Fire Department spokesman, said some of the houses had slight exterior damage, including melted siding, but that the homes themselves were not impacted.

However, two e garages were completely destroyed and three others were badly damaged, he said.
The Fire Department extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported. Officials said there was evidence fireworks may have started the fire.
