SHAH ALAM: A tour bus company manager and a cosmetic businessman have been implicated in a high-stakes drug smuggling operation, where they allegedly received RM30,000 each to smuggle syabu into the country.

The businessman was reportedly the primary transporter of the illegal substance, while the manager played a coordinating role within the smuggling ring.

Two others, another cosmetic businessman and a bus driver, were paid RM15,000 each for their roles as transporters as well.

The four suspects were arrested on March 27 when police seized over RM10.3mil worth of syabu.

Federal Narcotic Crime Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said the four suspects were arrested following a raid on a terrace house in Selangor.

“We arrested four men, aged between 23 and 40, and seized 312.7kg of syabu after checking a Toyota Vellfire and two Honda City cars.

“We believe the drugs came from Thailand,” he told reporters yesterday.

He said the syndicate would smuggle the drugs from Thailand via Bukit Kayu Hitam using vehicles with special compartments.

“They would stop in Kedah and hide the drugs until the coast was clear.

“The suspects would then bring the drugs to Selangor and store them at the double-storey terrace house,” he said, adding that the drugs were meant to be distributed within the Klang Valley as well as to other countries.

He said the suspects did not have any prior record and have been remanded until April 6.

“We also seized four vehicles, RM1,874 cash, 8,730 Thai Baht (RM1,133.90) and jewellery worth RM41,618,” he said.

Comm Khaw said police were investigating if the tour bus company manager used his experience at various exit and entry points to smuggle the drugs.
