KUALA LUMPUR: The RM2.28bil 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial involving Datuk Seri Najib Razak hit a snag when he and his lawyer were flagged as a Covid-19-linked “person under surveillance” (PUS) on their MySejahtera apps.
The hearing, which was scheduled to resume Monday (Dec 13) after a one-month break, was adjourned to Tuesday (Dec 14) after the court was informed of the Pekan MP’s PUS status.
Najib, who was initially not allowed into the courtroom due to his status, appeared briefly in court in the morning.
He and lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee, who was listed as a casual contact, were prompted to update their MySejahtera app and their statuses showed they were clear.
However, the court was informed by Najib’s lawyer Datuk Hariharan Tara Singh that after completing the question-and-answer section of the app, their statuses had “flipped back to the original position”.
“They were informed by court interpreters that if they are casual contacts or PUS, they should step aside,” Hariharan told the court here on Monday.
