GOMBAK: A 29-year-old man was detained shortly after he snatched a woman's handbag at Taman Sri Gombak here on Thursday (Sept 30).

       Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Zainal Mohamed Mohamed said the 33-year-old victim was in front of a shop in the housing area when a man on a motorcycle sped up and snatched her handbag at about 8.10am.

       "In his bid to escape, the suspect's motorcycle hit another vehicle.

       "He was apprehended by onlookers and handed over to the police," he said when contacted on Thursday.

       Initial investigations revealed that the suspect has some 20 past criminal offences, he added.

       "The motorcycle used by the suspect was reported stolen in Kajang.

       "He will be remanded for further investigation," he said.

       ACP Zainal Mohamed commended the public for apprehending the suspect.

       "We are grateful for the public's actions.
