Monday’s forecast shows windy and cold conditions, along with a few snow flurries, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologists expect cloudiness and isolated flurries before 5 p.m. The high is expected to be 28 degrees with wind gusts up to 25 mph. Temperatures will get colder in the evening, with a low of about 19 degrees.

Casey Sullivan, a meteorologist with the NWS in Romeoville, said he doesn’t expect any snow accumulation from the flurries. He anticipates Monday being the coldest day of the week, with wind chills in the teens.

“The main story today is to bundle up, because it’s pretty cold outside with the temperatures and the wind chill,” he said.

The weather service said cold temperatures will continue until Tuesday, before gradually warming later in the week. Rain is also a possibility later this week, mainly in areas south of I-80.

On Sunday, Chicago received 1.8 inches of snow at O’Hare International Airport, the city’s official recording site. A winter weather advisory was in effect for part of the day, due to “slick and hazardous” conditions on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Due to a strong El Nino, scientists predict that Chicago’s winter will be milder and drier than normal.
