JOHOR BARU: Voters should always pick someone who is willing to work at all times and not only during an election season, says Pontian MCA division chief Datuk Tee Siew Kiong.

       “Doing their job from the start is considered to be preparing for the election. The rakyat can distinguish between those who are really working and those who are just acting," said Tee.

       “Choosing the wrong government will only result in the rakyat suffering,” he said after meeting the Pontian MCA division on Saturday (Jan 22) about its preparations for the upcoming general election.

       He added that the Pontian division has been hard at work since the May 2018 general election, assisting the people in many ways including through the Covid-19 pandemic and the recent floods.

       Tee also said that the most important thing is for Johor to establish a stable government.

       “A government at risk of collapsing at any time will scare off domestic and foreign investors. Johor currently only has a one-seat majority, making it quite unstable and no investor is willing to take such risks," said the Mentri Besar's adviser.

       “The political situation in the country has been chaotic and voters must use their votes to decide on the future of Johor and the country,” he added, saying that an experienced government is needed to steer the state’s developments well.

       He pointed out that it has been nearly four years since the last general election and if Johor was to hold a state election soon, it is in line with the provisions of the Federal Constitution.

       He also noted that some leaders in the state have been contradicting their own statements by saying that there was no need for a state election.

       “Yet at the same time, they are making election preparations. If they do not agree, maybe they can sit it out and let others with more experience and abilities bring Johor forward,” Tee added.
