JOHOR BARU: Some 29,500 litres of subsidised diesel worth RM63,425 have been seized by the marine police here.
Southern Region Two marine police commander Asst Comm Muhd Zailani Abdullah said that the diesel was seized following two separate raids in Skudai at about 4pm on Thursday (April 21).
"We launched an operation following a tip-off on the misappropriation of the diesel.
"Two men, who were found filling up the fuel into the two separate lorries were also arrested during the raids," he said in a statement here on Friday (April 22) night.
He said that the two suspects, aged 31 and 51, are believed to be lorry drivers.
"Further inspections found that some 29,500 litres worth RM63,425 of diesel were involved.
"The estimated total value of items seized, including the lorries are about RM649,425," he added.
He said all of the items seized and the two suspects have been handed over to the Southern Region Two marine police headquarters in Tampoi for further actions as no valid permits from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) were found.
The case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961, which carries a fine of RM100,000 or two years’ jail upon conviction.
