IPOH: Special safety training courses will be conducted at cave temples, says Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Azmi Osman.

He said the courses, expected to be conducted this year, will be tailored for the cave temples' members and security guards.

"In case of emergencies, the members and security guards will be there first, so they need to know what to do.

"It is important for them to know what to do if there is a fire incident or injuries at their premises," he said after visiting a supermarket at Falim here Wednesday (Jan 26).

Several temples in the Kinta Valley were served with eviction notices earlier this month due to safety concerns.

A special committee would be set up by the state government to determine the status of all the temples located on government-owned land, either through the reservation method, issuance of Temporary Occupancy Licence, or reserve land lease.

Azmi said based on their inspections conducted at some cave temples, most were equipped with safety plans.

"We've visited two to three temples in Ipoh and we can see they have fire extinguishers and good wiring systems.

"This shows that they are taking good care of the caves," he said.
