PORT DICKSON: Police have detained two suspected loan sharks who allegedly splashed red paint on the car of a 21-year-old vehicle workshop owner here.

       Port Dickson police chief Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed said the suspects, aged 30 and 38, were detained in an operation here and in Seremban on Monday (Sept 6).

       He said the victim, who admitted that he borrowed some RM130,000 from five individuals, was shocked to see red paint splattered on the windscreen and roof of his car which was parked outside his home in Lukut near here on Aug 29.

       "The victim admitted that he borrowed the money to run his workshop but had yet to make full settlement.

       "The two suspects, who are also debt collectors, have been remanded until Sept 10 to assist in our probe," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 7).

       The case was being investigated under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951 for operation of a business without a valid licence, which carries a penalty of between RM250,000 and RM1mil, imprisonment of not more than five years, or both upon conviction.

       The suspects were also being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and causing damage to property, which provides a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both upon conviction.

       Supt Aidi Sham said police seized RM1,700, two ATM cards and two mobile phones from the suspects.
