MISSING livestock and recent sightings of a pair of black panthers has spooked villagers in Kampung Batu Chondong in Kuala Pilah, Negri Sembilan, Kosmo! Ahad reported.
Villager Mumtaz Ahmad said the first panther was spotted at about 6.30pm on Thursday near an orchard and came back about an hour later with another leopard.
She said the family decided to use torches to inspect the area after being alerted by their dogs.
“We spotted the animal early this year, but we’ve never seen it coming this close before.
“They are now in my mother-in-law’s fenced vegetable patch,” she said
Mumtaz, 36, said seven of their goats had gone missing between March and September this year, and the family believed the panthers were responsible.
Negri Sembilan Wildlife and National Parks Department director Wan Mat Wan Harun said they set up a camera trap to detect the presence of the big cats in the complainant’s property.
So far, he said, only tracks of palm civet cats were found in the orchard.
