One traditional café owner has had to go upmarket to keep in step with the trend
It has forced one traditional café’s owner to go upmarket to keep in step with the trend.
Suat “Sam” Tezgel, 50, confirmed that after 20 years in the business there’s now less love for the Great British breakfast.
So he turned Bonnie’s café in Redfield, Bristol, into upmarket Laila Mediterranean Café-Bar-Restaurant.
Sam said: “After lockdown there was a big health kick and the appetite for fry-ups plummeted. An up-to-date menu seemed a good idea.”
New menu highlights include a £6 organic halloumi salad with crispy salad leaves, olives and a secret dressing, and a cocktail menu.
He has retained his £9 mega breakfast — two eggs, two bacon, two sausages, two black pudding, chips, two hash browns, mushrooms, tomatoes beans, and two toast — but admits demand has dropped off.
