British Transport Police were called to the scene just after 7.30pm. Officers sealed off the Gordon Street entrance of the station.

       The victim was taken to hospital where he is being treated for a stab wound to his shoulder.

       The injury is not believed to be life threatening.

       A man has been arrested on suspicion of serious assault and possessing an offensive weapon.

       Pictures show a heavy police presence and vehicles at the scene.

       A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers received a report of an assault at Glasgow Central Station shortly after 7.30pm tonight.

       "A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of serious assault and possessing an offensive weapon, and has been taken to police custody for questioning.

       "The victim was taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment for a stab wound to his shoulder.

       "Thankfully, this is not believed to be life threatening.

       "A knife was recovered from the scene and enquiries into the incident are currently ongoing."

       A spokesperson for Network Rail Scotland told Glasgow Live that the Gordon Street entrance was shut but said the station continued to be fully operational.
