An incident involving a man barricaded inside his home in Alexandria ended Wednesday just before noon when the man was taken into custody nearly 24 hours after police first tried to apprehend him.
The standoff began around noon Tuesday in the 1000 block of Woods Place when Alexandria police got a call about “shots fired during a road-rage incident.”

Authorities said they found a man at his home and attempted to apprehend him but he “refused to surrender and barricaded himself in the home.”
Around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, police said, the man fired “several rounds at officers” but “no officers have discharged their weapon in this incident,” according to a statement.
Residents who couldn’t leave their homes had been asked to “shelter in place.”
The incident occurred near Alexandria City High School, which is closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.
