A major UK motorway has re-opened after horror three-vehicle crash.
Drivers were warned their journeys will be delayed by up to 50 minutes following the "multi vehicle" smash on the M1 this morning during rush hour.
Queues tailed back after a lane was shut down due to the crash affecting traffic on the northbound junctions of the motorway, between junctions 20 and 21 for Lutterworth and Leicester respectively. Traffic cameras showed hoards of vehicles at a total standstill.
National Highways says the road was not expected to clear until 9.15am.
The organisation took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to warn motorists of long delays.
It said: "Traffic is stopped on the #M1 in #Leicestershire northbound between J20 (#Lutterworth) & J21 (#Leicester) due to a multi-vehicle collision.
"Emergency services are in attendance.
"Delays of at least 45 minutes, please allow extra journey time. Thank you for your patience."
A spokesperson from Leicestershire Police said: "A three-vehicle collision was reported just after 6.20am.
"No life-threatening or life-changing injuries have been reported and traffic is running in two of the three lanes."
