A National Highways spokesman said earlier: "There are long delays on the M40 in Oxfordshire due to an earlier collision between J10 and J11.

       "The vehicle involved has been recovered and lanes one and two have been reopened.

       "Lane three is now closed to allow contractors to complete an emergency repair to the central reservation barrier.

       "This is causing delays of up to 60 minutes above usual journey times and there is approx. 7.5 miles of congestion and slow moving traffic on approach to the lane closure."

       He warned that local drivers approaching the delays to expect disruption with added journey time, recommending motorists re-route or delay their journeys.

       The spokesman continued: "If travelling towards this area from much farther afield, you may wish to change your route and allow extra travel time and follow guidance from our on-road variable message signs and media."

       But the M40 northbound entry slip road was then closed due to a vehicle fire at junction 11 A422 (Banbury).

       There is congestion to Banbury Cross Retail Park on the A422 Hennef Way.
