KUALA LUMPUR: Illegal house renovations have been identified as among the causes of Friday’s landslide in Jalan Kemensah Heights here, says Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
He said some owners had to renovate their houses to accommodate a larger family.
“But it has to be done in accordance with stipulated guidelines and procedures to avoid an incident like this,” he said when met at the scene of the incident yesterday.
Also present was Minerals and Geoscience Department director-general Hishamuddin Termidi.
Takiyuddin said the department was expected to complete a report on the incident today.
The landslide affected three bungalows and 12 townhouses involving 27 families.
Gombak district officer Nor Azlina Abdul Aziz said the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council had been instructed to inspect slopes and construction sites in Kemensah Heights to ensure compliance with the stipulated rules. — Bernama
