A Zion woman was in extremely critical condition after she was struck by an apparent stray bullet Sunday night, police said.
The 23-year-old woman was inside her home in the 2800 block of Enoch Avenue when she was hit by gunfire outside, Zion police said Monday. Authorities said it does not appear that the woman was the intended target of the shooting.
Officers were called to the area at about 9 p.m. after receiving reports of shots, which appear to have been fired from near the roadside, police said.
The woman was taken to a hospital with extremely critical injuries, police said.
Because of the serious nature of the incident, Zion police requested assistance from the Lake County Major Crime Task Force. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, police said.
