PETALING JAYA: Unity is the main pillar in a diverse country such as Malaysia, said Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The Transport Minister as well as MCA president said the diverse religions, races and cultures make Malaysia a unique country.
“This uniqueness has also been our strength for a long time. Who would have thought that even though Malaysia is a small country, it is able to stand as tall as other developed countries,” he said in a Facebook post to mark Malaysia Day, which falls today.
He said that the Covid-19 pandemic had affected the lives of the people and inhibited the economic growth of the country.
“But with the spirit of the ‘Malaysian Family’, we will definitely be able to get out of this difficult time when we all work together,” he said.
He also highlighted the memorandum of bipartisan cooperation that was inked between the government and the Pakatan Harapan coalition on Monday.
“This was history for our country when cooperation between the government and the Opposition was done formally and systematically in the interest of the people and the country, without compromising the function of the government and the Opposition to play the role of check and balance,” he said.
Dr Wee also said that the contributions of the frontliners, who have never stopped looking after the health and safety of Malaysians, should never be forgotten.
“Hopefully with this bond of unity, consensus and mutual cooperation and deliberation, we can all rise again and enjoy a better life in the future,” he said as he wished all Malaysians a Happy 58th Malaysia Day.
