TANJUNG MALIM: With Covid-19 Omicron cases on the rise, students and teachers should be more vigilant when the new school session starts, says Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.
The Deputy Education Minister said those returning to school should continue to strictly observe and practise the standard operating procedure set by the government.
“The pandemic is everywhere in the world, with the Omicron variant projected to be further widespread.
“Prevention is the key, so it is important that we adhere strictly to the SOP to lower the risk of the virus spreading,” he said after launching the Orang Asli Integrated Programme at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris here yesterday.
“Parents should bring their children who are sick or showing symptoms for immediate treatment,” he said.
The school term of the 2021/2022 session is scheduled for Sunday and Monday, depending on the respective states.
For states that are still badly affected the floods, schools will be given more time to reopen.
He said children, whose school uniforms that had been damaged in the floods need not wear them when they return to school.
“The ministry understands that some families may have yet to replace the damaged uniforms and is allowing children to go to school in normal attire,” he said.
Dr Mah also said all preparations to reopen schools had been taken by the respective state and district Education Department.
“Some schools have been allocated with new furniture to allow classes to resume, while some that still need replacement for tables and chairs can defer the reopening until they are ready.
“All these are being managed by the respective state Education Department.
“We will ensure all those impacted will be taken care of,” he said.
