PETALING JAYA: To tackle the issue of littering in public areas, the Housing and Local Government Ministry has ordered strict enforcement against litterers and will not grant any discounts on fines.

       Its Minister, Nga Kor Ming (pic), emphasised a zero-tolerance approach, stating that fines would be issued without any discounts.

       "I have instructed all 155 Local Councils to levy fines on individuals caught littering in public areas, with no exceptions for discounts.

       "It is everyone’s responsibility to keep public hygiene. Nobody is above the law," he told the media on Saturday (April 6).

       The Minister condemned the irresponsible behaviour of those who discard waste indiscriminately, especially along roadsides, showing disregard for sanitation workers.

       "Even in the 21st century, there are still people who throw garbage everywhere, including along the road, without showing mercy to our workers. Until when do you want to continue this bad habit?" he added.
