KUALA LUMPUR: Former student activist Fahmi Zainol has announced that he will be contesting for the PKR Youth chief post at the party elections this year.
Fahmi, who is Penang PKR Youth chief, unveiled the team contesting alongside him, including Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat who will be contesting for the deputy PKR Youth chief post, Malay language daily Sinar Harian reported on Sunday (March 27).
He added that the vice-chief posts would be contested by Shah Alam deputy PKR Youth chief Muhammad Izuan Kasim and Melaka PKR Youth chief B. Prasant Kumar.
Fahmi said his line-up included leaders from diverse backgrounds.
He added that the team would focus on three main thrusts – the first to gain support of the youth, especially those aged 18 to 21 years old who will be voting for the first time in the 15th General Election (GE15).
The second thrust, Fahmi said, was to increase the participation of youths and PKR Youth in GE15.
His third area of focus is on strengthening PKR Youth.
Sinar Harian also reported that Fahmi welcomed other challengers for the PKR Youth chief's post, including fellow former student activist Adam Adli.
"I hope we will have a healthy contest. We are like siblings, previously as student activists and now in PKR," Fahmi said.
