ALOR SETAR: A Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) student has been found dead in her hostel room, says Kedah police.

       Kubang Pasu district police chief Supt Rodzi Abu Hassan said the police have classified the case as sudden death.

       "We are not concluding the death due to electric shock as the forensic report is still pending.

       Second year accounting student Vinosiny Sivakumar, 21, was found dead in her hostel room on Monday.

       A video uploaded to YouTube alleged she had died from an electric shock.

       Meanwhile UUM expressed its condolences to Vinosiny's family.

       UUM said they were still waiting for the post-mortem report from the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar.

       "As a mark of concern, UUM will lighten their burden by extending appropriate assistance to the family," UUM said in a statement.
