Street racing, stunt driving penalties are increased in Ontario Highway Traffic Act changes
2021-07-02 00:00:00.0     环球邮报-加拿大     原网页

Drivers charged with street racing or stunt driving in Ontario will face harsher penalties starting Thursday.

The changes to the Highway Traffic Act are part of the Moving Ontario More Safely Act, which was signed into law in early June.

Those facing racing or stunt driving charges will now see their vehicles impounded for 14 days, up from seven.

They will also see their licence suspended for 30 days, rather than a week.

The threshold for racing and stunt driving charges is also getting lower in some cases.

Those caught travelling 40 km/h or more above the limit on roads with a posted speed limit below 80 km/h can now face such charges.

The previous threshold of 50 km/h over the limit remains in effect for roads with a posted speed limit of 80 km/h or higher.
