BUKIT MERTAJAM: Some 2,800 litres of subsidised diesel worth RM6,580 was seized from a petrol station at Jalan Tengah here.
Penang Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry director Mohd Ridzuan Ab Ghapar said an enforcement team raided the station on Wednesday (Jan 26) after a month-long surveillance following complaints from the public.
"During the raid, the enforcement officers found a tanker was siphoning diesel into its tank by using two nozzles," said Mohd Ridzuan.
"A check on the transaction receipt found that the tanker had siphoned subsidised diesel worth RM6,582.85 in about 40 minutes," he added in a statement on Thursday (Jan 27).
Mohd Ridzuan said two men were detained to facilitate the probe under Supply Control Act 1961 which carries a fine of up to RM1mil or three years jail or both upon conviction.
He added that besides the diesel, a lorry and two mobile phones were also confiscated.
