LAHORE: Two young brothers, who had arrived in Lahore from Sheikhupura to apply for a job in the Pakistan Army, succumbed to their injures on Wednesday after a car rashly driven by a woman crushed them in North Cantt area here about a week ago.

The police reports suggested that Noorul Hassan (20) and his younger brother Mahmoodul Hassan (18) wanted to join the army.

They had arrived in Lahore on Oct 21 to obtain forms to apply for a job in the army, a police official said, adding that as they reached the Cantonment area the same day, a woman who drove the car rashly hit both brothers and fled the scene.

The locals immediately rushed to the site, alerted the police and the Rescue 1122 employees.

The official said the injured young men were rushed to a hospital in a life-threatening condition.

He said they underwent multiple surgeries and then put on ventilators following the serious complications.

According to the latest reports, Noor and Mahmood succumbed to their profound injuries on Wednesday.

To a question, the police official said a special team was deputed to investigate and obtain the record of the cameras installed alongside the road where the accident took place and the other nearby locations to trace the car and assess the gravity of the incident.

Lahore Investigation SSP Mohammad Naveed said the woman who had fled the scene after allegedly hitting the boys was on a pre-arrest bail. He said further investigations were underway.

It merits mentioning that reckless driving in the posh areas of the city, particularly, in the Cantonment and Defence Housing Authority has been in the limelight for quite some time.

The careless driving by the elite family children and other members used to go unreported in many cases as they wielded influence in police circles.

In November last year, some six members of a family had lost their lives in a horrific accident which took place due to rash driving by a teen in DHA.

The fatal accident had taken place when he drove his car at the speed of 110 km/h, lost control over the vehicle and ploughed into another car coming from the other side of the road.

The issue had drawn the attention of the higher authorities which had launched action against the under-age drivers across Punjab.
