Princess Eugenie, 31, was able to introduce her baby boy August Philip Hawke to her grandfather Prince Philip after whom he was named. Baby August was born in February just weeks before the Duke of Edinburgh died on April 9.

Speaking in the BBC documentary Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers which aired on Wednesday night Eugenie said: "We named August, August Philip because grandpa had been such a huge, inspiring character in my life.

"I brought little August to come and meet him and told him that we'd named him after him and it was such a lovely moment.

"We were very lucky to do that."

During the documentary, Eugenie also spoke of how she shared a passion for art with the late Duke who was known to enjoy watercolour painting.

While standing in the grounds of Windsor Castle Eugenie explained just how creative her late grandfather was.

"I didn't know that grandpa designed the garden and also the lotus flower in the middle of the fountain," Eugenie recalled.

She added: "He does have that creative gene in him, it's just he doesn't talk about it."

But the 31-year-old only realised she shared her grandfather's passion for art at the age of 16.

Eugenie "We would be walking down the corridors and I'd see paintings he's done of Scotland or different places in Norfolk.

       "They are beautiful."

When Eugenie tied the knot with Jack Brooksbank in October 2018, Prince Philip even opted to give his granddaughter a painting as a wedding gift.

The documentary, initially commissioned to mark the Duke of Edinburgh's 100th birthday, was shown on the BBC at 9pm on Wednesday.
