PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Family Sales Programme (PJKM) will be continued after Ramadan if there is enough budget for it, says Datuk Rosol Wahid.
The Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister said the government is studying the need to extend the programme till after Ramadan this year.
“We have plans to continue PJKM till after Ramadan. But it will depend on the budget that will be given. Hopefully, we will have the budget to continue this programme,” he said when replying to a question raised by Datuk Rubiah Wang (GPS-Kota Samarahan) in Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (March 17).
PJKM is set up as a government initiative to help alleviate the people’s cost of living, especially consumers from low-income groups that have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and recent floods.
Rosol said PJKM allows Malaysians to obtain daily necessities such as chicken, eggs, vegetables and others at 20% cheaper than the market rates.
Rubiah has asked whether the ministry intends to maintain PJKM throughout the country, especially during the festive seasons.
PJKM was launched on Dec 2 last year and expected to end by the end of this month.
Rosol said the implementation of PJKM requires the support of committed strategic partners.
“We thank the Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry and 100 strategic partners that we currently have,” he added.
