SHAH ALAM: The director of a company claiming ownership of a suitcase filled with more than RM500,000 in cash has again failed to turn up for a police appointment.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the man had given his word that he would show up on Saturday to have his statement recorded.

“We really do not care if he shows up or not to prove ownership. We will proceed with the disposal of property procedures if the money is not claimed.

“If not claimed, we will place advertisements in various media first. The money will be handed over to the Treasury if no one comes forward,” he told reporters yesterday.

Besides lifting fingerprints from the bag and notes, police are also analysing them for trace elements of drugs and other substances.

“We will issue another update once we receive the report from the analysis.

“We are curious as well about how and why the money was left there, and if there was supposed to be a transaction,” he said.

It was reported that the suitcase was found by a security guard on March 20.

It was found in the car park of a shopping mall in Damansara.

On March 21, police received a phone call from the businessman, who pledged to come to the station and give a statement after admitting the suitcase belonged to his company.
