GEORGE TOWN: Taking advantage of the long weekend for the Deepavali holidays and the year-end offers, many families were out on a shopping spree at Queensbay Mall.
Faizura Che Man said it was the first time she and her family had been out shopping together after almost two years.
“We did not have much time to shop because all we did was go out for grocery runs,” said the supervisor.
Faizura, 40, who bought new clothes and shoes, said they travelled from Seberang Prai to the island in the morning to get their shopping done early.
“We wanted to avoid the crowds, so after buying the items and having an early lunch, we will head back,” she said.
Most stalls at the mall have started offering discounts and offers ahead of the year-end sales.
At a fitness concept store, retail training manager Barney Tan, 38, said their store started offering discounts of up to 50% on various fitness items and equipment.
“We are running two rounds of sales, one from now until Nov 29 and the other from Dec 1-31.
“In the past two years, people’s mindset on health and lifestyle has changed. Now more and more people are focusing on exercising,” he said.
Tan also said many wanted to adopt a healthy lifestyle and were looking to work out at home for safety reasons.
“As such, we are taking this opportunity to slash prices for our customers to increase sales,” he added.
At an accessories and wrist-wear store, sales executive Chuah Chuang Ning, 27, said they were offering discounts up to 30% for various watches.
“We are currently holding the promotion until the end of this month. After this, we will see if we can hold another round of sales,” he said.
Ronny Chu, 40, who was looking for a watch, said he was glad to buy one at a 20% discount.
“I can finally choose a fitting watch in-store without having to struggle with measuring my wrist at home while shopping online,” he said.
At the Aman Central Mall in Alor Setar, Kedah, a “Mega Sale” is happening until Dec 31 with special deals and contests.
