PETALING JAYA: Several Opposition MPs say it is impossible for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to still command majority support of the Dewan Rakyat after several Umno MPs withdrew their support for Perikatan Nasional.

       "We are consistent with our stand that Muhyiddin and the Cabinet must step down from their positions," the seven MPs said in a joint statement Wednesday (Aug 4).

       The statement was signed by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, Upko president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, Independent MP Dr Maszlee Malik, as well as Parti Sarawak Bersatu MPs Baru Bian and Datuk Masir Kujat.

       On Tuesday (Aug 3), Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the party had decided in a special supreme council meeting, to call on all its MPs to rescind their support for the Perikatan government.

       Muhyiddin is believed to have lost majority support of the Dewan Rakyat, but the Prime Minister on Wednesday (Aug 4) insisted that he still held it and a motion of confidence would be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat in September.
