JOHOR BARU: The investigation paper on ethnic Rohingya man Abdul Hamim Ab Hamid, also known as "Long Tiger", is almost complete, says outgoing Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

       He added that police are prepared to request for the 35-year-old suspect's remand period, which ends on Saturday (Jan 1), to be extended if required.

       "Whether the remand will be continued depends on our investigation. If it is not complete then we will ask for (the extension).

       "It also depends on the court, whether to extend the remand period or not.

       "But more or less, the investigation paper is complete and this is a straightforward case where he ran away from the lockup," he told a press conference after officiating the state Police Family Association (Perkep) fun cycle programme at its headquarters here on Friday (Dec 31).

       On Wednesday (Dec 29), a remand order for four days was issued by the Tangkak Magistrate’s Court against Abdul Hamim, who escaped police custody while at the court on Dec 15.

       The order was issued by Magistrate Analia Kamaruddin, who also issued a similar order against three other individuals, aged 36, 38 and 46, believed to be his accomplices.

       Abdul Hamim, who was rearrested in Kedah on Tuesday (Dec 28), was detained for investigation under Sections 223/224 of the Penal Code, while the detention of the three individuals was made under Section 216 of the same law for harbouring an offender.
