KLUANG: A neighbour’s quick actions in alerting the police helped to thwart a robbery attempt by two men at a house in Taman Seri Impian here.
Kluang deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said police received information about a suspected robbery at 11.55am on Sept 13 (Monday).
“A mobile police unit rushed to the area and managed to arrest the two suspects, in their 30s, with the help of some members of the public.
“We also seized a motorcycle, two screwdrivers, two wire cutters and a portable ladder,” he said, adding that both suspects were placed under remand until Thursday (Sept 16) for investigations under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
If found guilty, the suspects could face a maximum jail term of 14 years and a fine.
Businessman Lim Chek Chai, 61, said the house belonged to his son who works in Singapore.
Lim expressed his gratitude to the neighbour for his quick response.
“I was at home in Taman Rekamas, Simpang Renggam when my son’s neighbour called to inform me about the suspicious activity.
“I rushed over immediately and the moment I walked through the front door, one of the suspects ran towards me while holding a wooden stick.
“I fell to the ground and both of them made a run for it,” he said when interviewed, adding that he was traumatised by the incident.
He added that his son’s house was unoccupied at the moment and he would drop by occasionally to clean up the place.
