UNI bosses are investigating a racism row after a white reveller went to a fancy dress party "blacked up" as Kanye West – before pals claimed he was a "chimney sweep".

       Shocking footage posted online shows the man wearing a baseball cap, gold chain, and a pair of the music mogul's Yeezy trainers with black make-up covering his face.

       He was snapped next to a woman in a tight black dress, high heels and shades, who was thought to have gone to the bash as Kanye's estranged wife, Kim Kardashian.

       It is thought the person who dressed up as West is not a Durham student but the person who posted the footage is.

       Horrified students blasted the man’s choice of costume - and slammed the shoddy explanation that he was a chimney sweep.

       One said: “Are you really trying to tell me this isn’t Kim and Kanye?”

       Another said: “This is abhorrent.”

       And a third added: “How few brain cells must you have for this to be acceptable in your head?”

       One furious Twitter user also wrote: “The person who posted this claims that the guy is dressed up as a ‘chimney sweeper.’ Gold chain + cap + Yeezys = chimney sweeper???”

       It was not clear when and where the party took place but the shameful clip of the fancy dress function was posted at the weekend.

       Durham University launched a probe over claims that the person who posted it was a student there and said the clip was "unacceptable".

       The row blew up as it was revealed hate incidents based on race were the most common type of offence reported to the University.

       Data published by Durham revealed that 21% of reports of hate incidents between October 2019 and February 2021 were based on race, more than any other category.

       The University admitted the figures were “concerning” but said it was working hard to create a “safe, respectful and inclusive environment”.

       "ANOTHER RACISM SCANDAL"

       A student lost their offer at Durham University last year after making "utterly abhorrent" racist remarks in online chats.

       One Twitter user, who described herself as an “ashamed graduate”, tweeted the university: “This is embarrassing and shameful, not just this instance but because (your) students being openly and overtly racist, keeps happening year on year.

       “When is it going to be a clear policy that this behaviour is wrong and is an expellable offence?”

       The Durham People of Colour Association said: “We have yet ANOTHER racism scandal on our hands.”

       Durham University tweeted: “We have been made aware of an unacceptable post on social media that we understand may have been posted by a Durham student.

       “Racism has no place at Durham University. We have instigated an investigation and appropriate action will be taken.”

       A spokesman added: “We have investigated this social media post and it appears that the individual featured is not a Durham University student.

       “We continue to look into the circumstances in which the video was posted.”
