PETALING JAYA: Powerwell Holdings Bhd will expand its operations and will soon be commissioning a new factory in Johor Baru.

       The company said the new factory would allow it to expand into the production of mechanical and control panels for air-conditioning.

       The factory is expected to start operations by the fourth quarter of calendar year 2021, Powerwell said in its 2021 annual report.

       The company said it also planned to expand its presence in Indonesia, especially in the semiconductor and data centre segments, by introducing one-stop solution products such as Powerwell-branded low-voltage switchboards, Siemens switchgears, transformers, Eaton switchgears and ring main units.

       The company said it had recently signed contracts with value-added partners such as Siemens and Eaton for 33kV gas insulated switch gears and 24kV ring main units, which will be manufactured and delivered from its factory.

       This will see Powerwell’s brand being co-branded with the value-added partners’ labels.

       “We will continue to increase marketing activities in the domestic and regional markets in order to grow market share, targeting segments such as data centres, semiconductor factories, hospitals and utility projects such as sewerage treatment plant,” it said.

       Powerwell said it is in the midst of enhancing its product offering through the commercialisation of its own Powerwell-branded medium-voltage switchgears.

       “In 2021, the company was awarded a contract to supply low-voltage switchboards and medium-voltage switchgear panels for a solar power plant in Bangladesh with a contract value of US$2.1mil or about RM9mil,” it said.

       Meanwhile, Powerwell said it had in July completed the acquisition of a three-storey office block and single-storey factory building in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam.

       “The acquisition allows us to have additional space to accommodate the new plant and machinery for business expansion.

       “The strategic location of the property, being close to existing factories in Kota Kemuning, will enable us to streamline and enhance production processes to reap operational synergies and efficiency,” it said.
