Manchester lockdown: Armed police swoop in 'major operation' after shooting

       Part of Copthorne Crescent in Longsight needed to be taped off as the police responded to the incident. Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed that a shooting did take place in the area.

       Residents of the area were told by police that they were dealing with a "very serious incident".

       Eye witnesses have said that bloodied items have been seen in the middle of the road where the incident took place.

       Pictures from the scene show multiple police vehicles have gathered the incident.

       Forensics were also spotted arriving at the scene.

       A statement from Greater Manchester Police read: "At around 7.20pm this evening (20 October), police were called to reports that a man had been shot on Copthorne Crescent, Manchester.

       "Emergency services attended and a man in his 20s was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds.

       "Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made.

       "A scene remains in place and there is not believed to be a wider threat to the public."
