KOTA KINABALU: Symptomatic Covid-19 cases are on the rise in Sabah, from 25% on Thursday (Aug 26) to 31.4% of Friday's 3,010 new cases.
State Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said symptomatic screenings accounted for 946 cases, close contact screenings uncovered 1,782 cases (59.2%), while only 37 cases came from clusters.
"Almost 37% of cases in Sandakan came from symptomatic screenings, higher than close contact figures.
"In Kota Kinabalu, symptomatic screenings accounted for 44% of new infections," said the state Local Government and Housing Minister.
On the daily total, he said there was a reduction of 477 cases from 3,487 recorded on Thursday, with the reductions coming from Kinabatangan and Sandakan.
From Friday's 3,010 cases, 63.1% are backlogs stretching back to two to over five days.
"As of Thursday (Aug 26), 56.05% of Sabah's targeted adult population have received the first vaccine dose, while 35.44% have completed both doses," Masidi added.
