Had the fire happened in the air, the 21 passengers (including 3 crew members) would probably have died. On Tuesday, in Brookshire, Texas, a group of people boarded the jet at Houston Executive Airport at around 10am (local time) to attend the AL Championship Series baseball game.

       According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FFA), The McDonnell Douglas MD-87 had trouble gaining altitude during takeoff.

       The private jet then rolled through a fence, crashed in a field and caught fire.

       Waller County Judge Trey Duhon said in a statement that everyone made it off the plane safely and the only reported injury was a passenger with back pain.

       Cheryl McCaskill, of the Houston suburb of Cypress, was aboard the plane and told the Houston Chronicle that she felt “shaky and shocked” after running from the burning jet in her Astros jersey.

       “When it finally stopped everyone went ‘get out, get out, get out.’

       “We jumped out on that inflatable thing and then everyone went ‘get away,’” McCaskill said.

       Sergeant Stephen Woodard with the Texas Department of Public Safety said the youngest on board was a 10-year-old child.

       “They extracted themselves, they’re off.

       “No one is deceased.

       “Man, that is an awesome feeling right now for us as first responders,” Mr Woodard said in a statement.

       Chief Tim Gibson, director of Waller-Harris Emergency Services, said it took several service providers to extinguish the fire Tuesday.

       “The plane was fully engulfed by the time crews arrived,” Mr Gibson said.

       The jet is registered to a Houston-based investment firm, according to FAA records.

       When the crash occurred, the aircraft, built in 1987, was on the market and boasted a listing price of $3,950,000.

       The listing indicates the plane seated 19 people.

       The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board is set to investigate the cause of the incident.
