Boris Johnson and Nick Robinson have clashed in an awkward radio encounter after the BBC Today Programme host seemed to lose his cool with the Prime Minister rambling answers on the HGV shortage. Mr Robinson grilled the Boris Minister on the Governments handling of the truck driver shortages and the current supply chain crisis before becoming increasingly irritated with the Prime Minister's lengthy explanations.

Mr Johnson told the Today Programme: "There is no supply of young people in this country who frankly at the moment are thinking of becoming truck drivers."

"You have made that point very clearly, and I am going to make a new one," blasted Mr Robinson.

The host and Prime Minster began talking over one another before the host snapped: "Prime Minister you are going to pause.

       "...Prime Minister stop talking.

"We are going to have questions and answers.

"Not were you merely talk if you wouldn't mind."

It comes as the Prime Minister was pressed during his media rounds on Wednesday to explain the Government's handling of the truck driver shortages.

Mr Johnson disagreed strongly with the BBC presenter Dan Walker on Breakfast and slapped down the idea that Britain being outside the EU was a factor behind the lack of lorries on the roads.

Mr Walker told the Prime Minister: "People watching this morning will say this is related to Brexit.

"I can hear them shouting, you can probably hear them shouting at the TV now."

"I don't think they are," retorted Mr Johnson.

"I just mentioned China, to the best of my knowledge China is not in the EU."

He continued: "If you think China is in the European Union or America in the European Union..."

Mr Walker jumped in and argued the Prime Minister's plan to fix the supply chain problem was not working.

Mr Johnson replied: "Well the supply chain problem is caused very largely by the strength of the economic recovery.

"What you will see is brilliant logistics experts in our supermarket chains, in our food processing industry getting to grips with it, finding the staff that they need."
