PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong expressed his gratitude to all staff at the Transport Ministry (MOT) as he bowed out as the minister.

       The MCA president said he was thankful to each and everyone who has assisted him throughout his tenure since March 11 last year.

       “Holding this portfolio in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic is certainly difficult.

       “But with the spirit of teamwork, things turned out smoothly to ensure the transport industry remains strong.

       “I am happy to be able to work with the team in the MOT despite facing numerous challenging situations,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday (Aug 16).

       Dr Wee’s message came after Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin tendered his resignation as prime minister, as well as the entire Cabinet to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong earlier in the day.

       The former minister also held a virtual meeting in the morning with his former deputy Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, the ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Isham Ishak and other ministry staff.

       “I am proud of the MOT’s management who have been easy to work with and the sec-gen who displayed good leadership.

       “I've tried my best. I apologise should there be any shortcomings throughout the one year, seven months and five days that I took office.

       “I pray for the people at the MOT to continue to prosper and succeed in realising the vision of 'Sustainable Transport System the Heart of National Development',” he said.

       Dr Wee also thanked Muhyiddin for his trust and confidence in him to helm the ministry.

       “Thank you also to my Cabinet colleagues who have been working together to restore the country and look after the wellbeing of the people.

       “May we be able to go through the difficult times and have a better life in the future. Take care and stay safe everyone!” he added.
