KUALA LUMPUR: Senior police officers and rank-and-file personnel have voiced their support for the Independent Police Conduct Commission (IPCC).

Persatuan Pegawai Kanan Polis (PPKP) and Persatuan Pegawai Rendah Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PPRPD) have welcomed the efforts of the government in setting up the IPCC.

In a joint statement Thursday (Oct 7), PPKP president Senior Asst Comm Mohd Asri Md Akhir and PPRPD president Sub Insp Ayub Shafii said they had been briefed on the IPCC.

"We also discussed with the technical committee and police leadership on the implementation of the IPCC," they were quoted as saying.

They said that after studying the differences between the IPCC and the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC), which had not been agreed to previously, they welcomed the implementation of the IPCC.

"The IPCC is a proposed middle point to take into consideration the interests of the community as well as the police.

"Thus we welcome the efforts of the government in establishing the IPCC to restore public confidence towards the force," they said, adding that they were also confident the government would focus on the welfare of police personnel as well.
