KUALA LUMPUR: Database hardware and software upgrading works are behind the technical difficulties affecting the Integrated Police Reporting System nationwide.
Bukit Aman Logistics and Technology Department deputy director (technical/operations) Deputy Comm Datuk Shukri Abdullah said they had detected messages circulated on social media claiming that the integrated police reporting system (IPRS) which receives police reports was experiencing technical interference nationwide.
"The system is now in the process of upgrading the database hardware and software to the latest version.
"This maintenance work has been carried out in phases since March19 march," he said in a statement on Monday (March 21).
He said an internal memo regarding the matter was distributed to all police formations on March15 in order to be prepared for the manual system to be used if they experienced difficulty accessing the system during this period.
"The process of upgrading this database, as stated in the contract for the maintenance of the system, was in order to deliver the best service to the community.
"The appointed company is conducting configuration and troubleshooting for technical issues arising as a result of the large data migration process," he said, adding that any difficulty experienced was only temporary and the entire maintenance process was expected to be resolved in the near future.
He said the police have a manual work process mechanism to ensure that difficulties in accessing the system do not affect the receipt of police reports.
"People who need to make a police report can still deal with police personnel as normal at any police station counter," he said.
