PETALING JAYA: The temperature was hotter than usual on what was supposed to be a “shadowless” day, say Malaysians on social media.

They were commenting on Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Dr Adham Baba’s statement earlier on Monday (March 28), who said that Malaysians would experience an “afternoon without a shadow”, as the Sun would be directly overhead at 1.19pm.

Twitter user @jessicslee instead commented how hot it was on Monday, saying that “39°C recorded on the road”.

@wanariefimran tweeted that: “If you’ve been feeling the extra hot weather lately, one of the reasons is bcs it’s the time of the year when the sun is closest to us, directly on top of our heads.”

Others who managed to see the phenomenon shared their own photos and videos.

Twitter user @iamdineshdharma shared some photos and said “never realised we always see the sun at a certain angle”.

Similarly, @tauhidaziz shared a video which showed the shadows of trees and parked cars slowly disappearing.

Another user commented that it could have been a cloud temporarily obscuring the Sun, but @tauhidaziz responded that it was completely sunny outside.

Twitter user @zarithnotreal said he had fun playing with his shadow, adding that he thought it was a usual occurrence in the afternoon.

Others took to social media to say that they waited to experience the phenomenon but could not see a difference from normal days.

Twitter user @nadmrh said, “excitedly hurried to open the door, not to the point of going out and standing under the sun though, but saw that the trees still had shadows underneath.

User @jacewilliam25 posted two photos and said that it looked the same with the caption: “Not sure but my place is not happening. Pic before and after.”
