KOTA KINABALU: A 10-year-old girl, who went missing while crossing a river with her mother, has been found drowned.
Search and rescue personnel together with villagers recovered the body of Elzanatira Asod about 11km from where she went missing in Kampung Malangkap Darat in Sabah's northern Kota Marudu district.
Elzanatira was reported missing at about 5.30pm on Friday (May 13) and she was found at 11.15am Saturday (May 14).
She is believed to have drowned.
A spokesman for the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department's operation centre said that they resumed the second day's search at 7am Saturday.
"A few hours later, the victim was found by the villagers with the SAR team about 11km from the location where she went missing," he added.
He said the victim was pronounced dead by the medical team and handed over to the police for further action.
She was believed to have been swept away by river currents while crossing the river with her mother to return home from the family farm.
