'Tensions were high!' Both Harry and William's speeches pulled at tense Royal Family event

Jonathan Sacerdoti told US Weekly that tensions were obviously very high as Prince Harry and Prince William unveiled Princess Diana's statue at Kensington Palace. The royal commentator also discussed the fact both brothers did not give speeches as was originally planned and highlighted reports that the Duke of Sussex would not provide a copy of his speech before the Royal Family event.

Mr Sacerdotti said: "Well, it's certainly hard for any of us to know what goes on behind closed doors.

"And they really exercised extreme control over the media at that event.

"They didn't give live pictures to anybody, the pictures were recorded and then released a little bit later, within I think an hour of the actual event taking place.

"There was virtually nobody there they said of course it was because of the coronavirus restrictions and so it was a very low-key event really.

"There was absolutely no chance of anything being shown or seen or recorded that they didn't want to be released to the world.

"So on that basis you can tell that obviously tensions were very high and there was perhaps some fear of not knowing what would happen."

He continued: "And there had also been some rumors in the press that Harry had refused to give this text of the speech he was going to give to anybody to check and in the end there were no speeches.

"So again it's hard to know if that was just a baseless rumor or if perhaps that's why there were no speeches nobody really knows.

"The two did look relaxed when they were in Kensington Palace in the gardens at the unveiling of the statue and so one might assume that they had some discussions in private and again.

"It would have been a very good time to do that."

It is currently unclear why both Prince Harry and Prince William did not end up giving speeches at the unveiling of the statue.

Royal commentator Angela Levin previously discussed the fact there would be great attention focused on the speeches during the event.

Ms Levin told the BBC: "Who is going to give their speech first?

"Prince Harry wants to make a separate speech that he has decided not to let the Palace see in advance.

"William's has been seen by the Palace.

"And what in each of the speeches signifies their getting closer, are they getting further apart.

"Or they have had a row this morning and I think that is going to be the key interest really."
