KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat was left in stitches when Kota Raja MP Mohamad Sabu sarcastically asked Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim how several politicians manage to accumulate a large sum of money as exposed by the Pandora Papers.

       "Port Dickson, please don't be jealous. I am an MP for four terms but I do not have millions.

       "I see some ministers have RM900mil in their bank account, RM2mil is just pocket money.

       "I want to learn how to get that much money," he said, drawing laughter from Anwar and several members of the Dewan Rakyat.

       The Opposition leader had earlier raised the matter, saying that he had submitted the motion to the Speaker and was waiting for a reply.

       The Port Dickson MP said that a probe must be conducted by the relevant authorities on all of the claims made on the leaks of purported revelations of millions of ringgit belonging to several prominent Malaysian politicians.

       To this, Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon said that the motion was still under consideration and needed two days before a decision could be reached.

       Last week, Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun rejected Anwar's earlier motion for the Pandora Papers to be debated on grounds of urgency and public interest under Standing Order 18.

       The Pandora Papers are a data leak of some 2.94 terabytes of data, including among others, the opening of offshore accounts involving former and current government and political leaders around the world.
